Sylvan Ward is our 12 bedded specialist unit, with 4 single rooms and 2 bays with 4 beds in each bay. The average length of stay is two weeks.
People who meet our referral criteria may be admitted for a variety of reasons. Some of these include:
- managing symptoms that are difficult to control
- helping people adapt to changes so they can go home
- giving those who are caring a break
- providing care in the last weeks of life for those for whom dying at home is not always possible.
There is open visiting onSylvan Ward; families, carers and children are welcome (as are well behaved pets!). Any visitors coming after 10pm are asked to call us in advance so ward staff know they are coming.
The Team
Patients and their families are cared for by a multidisciplinary team led by the Consultant and Ward Sisters.
Catering
A team of skilled chefs and kitchen assistants provide patients' meals - which can be prepared according to each patient's appetite and choice.
Visiting facilities
Parking is free and permits are available from reception. There is a family room with a T.V. and a play area for children and minimal catering facilities. Our Brabury Bistro is open for lunches and snacks from 11.00am until 2.00pm Monday to Friday and meals are available from the restaurant at West Suffolk Hospital. When needed we can provide meals for family members on a discretionary basis.

Comments from a recent survey: "On arrival I thought this was it, I probably would not be leaving here, but before I knew it they controlled my pain and boosted my quality of life. Before I went in I could not walk without getting out of breath, 5 days later I was on my feet and walking out." | |
